The international architectural firm SIEBERT + TALAŠ was founded in 2002 by Matej Siebert and Roman Talaš, and currently operates both in Slovakia and in the Czech Republic.

For almost two decades, its architects have worked on a wide range of large and small designs, projects of residential houses, offices, hotels, commercial and logistics spaces at home and abroad. Their recent projects include also the new Bratislava bus station, which is already a major landmark in the city center.

Naturally, in the years of operation in SIEBERT + TALAŠ, they managed to produce a huge amount of documents that need to be preserved. However, like other architectural companies, they do not have the time or capacity to deal regularly with data migration from obsolete media.

What convinced you to try piqlFilm?

We perceive each of our projects as a challenge. How to archive all large-scale documentation as efficiently as possible is also one of them, because by law we have to keep the documentation for a long time. We have been puzzled over this dilemma for a long time, as architectural documentation requires not only large storage spaces but also system management so that the necessary information can be traced in the future. In this, Piql System represents the best solution for us.” explains architect Roman Talaš, the founding partner of SIEBERT + TALAŠ.

How did the cooperation between your studio and Piql originate and proceed?

Roman Talaš: “I learned about the possibility of storing digital data on a film strip at a personal meeting with Mr. Hodinka, CEO of Piql Slovakia. I was surprised that we can store documents, which would take up to 20 meters of shelves in the warehouse when printed in paper form just on one film reel. Besides, the durability and reliability of this type of archiving are many times higher than when stored on CDs or hard disks. Since the relatively large amount of data we have has either been created as digital or has become digitized, I was very interested in this idea. Like other companies, we were looking for a way to archive such data on the most reliable medium possible. We, therefore, decided for piqlFilm.

How satisfied were you with the result?

Roman Talaš: “In our studio, we believe in the idea of synergy with an emphasis on the highest quality of services, which has always been the main motivation and driving force for us. Just as our clients demand a high standard from us in the services we provide, we moreover carefully choose the companies we want to work with. I am glad that the whole cooperation with Piql Slovakia met all our expectations. After we selected the data internally, we just saved it to the hard disk according to the instructions and delivered it for processing. After a short time, we have received two piqlFilms with our data on them. It is amazing to be aware that our work will safely survive for hundreds of years.

This cooperation could be created thanks to the piqlFilm-GO project, which is co-financed under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme.
